What We Do
What we do!
The UCR Fencing Club is a community for students who are passionate about the sport of fencing. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced fencer, we provide a welcoming environment for everyone to learn, train, and compete. Our practices focus on technique, strategy, and conditioning across all three disciplines: foil, épée, and sabre. Our practices are at the SRC from Mondays 8:30pm - 10:30pm at MPR E and Wednesdays 8:30pm - 10:30pm at MPR A. Join us to sharpen your skills and make new friends!

Format & Scoring

Fencers score points by striking opponents on a valid part of their body or forcing their opponent off the piste.

Individual

Foil and epee are contested over three periods of three minutes, with the winner being either the first to reach 15 points or whomever has the most points after the three rounds are complete. In sabre, two periods are held with a break taking place when the first fencer reaches eight points.

Team

Three members compete in a round-robin format with each athlete on each team fencing one another at a time. This is nine sets of three-minute rounds to a maximum of five points. Winner first to 45 points of highest score after nine rounds.
